Atypical Protein Kinases (aPKs)

چکیده
Atypical protein kinases lack sequence similarity to the ePK domain HMM profile, but have been shown experimentally to have protein kinase activity, or are clear homologs of aPKs with demonstrated protein kinase activity. All aPK families are small, several having just one member in vertebrates, and none in invertebrates. Other aPK families may remain to be discovered by biochemical methods, but since most atypical families are small, and most biochemically-discovered kinases are ePKs, it is unlikely that many new atypical kinases will be discovered.. Conversely, some of these aPKs may be false positives, if the reports of kinase activity are not correct.

The RIO kinases: an atypical protein kinase family required for ribosome biogenesis and cell cycle progression.
Atypical protein kinases (aPKs) include proteins known to be involved in the phosphorylation-mediated regulation of a wide variety of cellular processes, as well as some for which the function is, as yet, unknown. At present, 13 families of aPKs have been identified in the human genome. This review briefly summarizes their known properties, but concentrates in particular on the RIO family of aP...
متن کاملGenome-Wide Identification and Comprehensive Analyses of the Kinomes in Four Pathogenic Microsporidia Species
Microsporidia have attracted considerable attention because they infect a wide range of hosts, from invertebrates to vertebrates, and cause serious human diseases and major economic losses in the livestock industry. There are no prospective drugs to counteract this pathogen. Eukaryotic protein kinases (ePKs) play a central role in regulating many essential cellular processes and are therefore p...
متن کاملAlmost all eukaryotic protein phosphorylation is conducted by a single superfamily of eukaryotic protein kinases (ePKs) that share a conserved catalytic domain. Several atypical protein kinases
Tony Hunter Salk Institute, 10010 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla, CA 92037, USA. Almost all eukaryotic protein phosphorylation is conducted by a single superfamily of eukaryotic protein kinases (ePKs) that share a conserved catalytic domain. Several atypical protein kinases (aPKs) are also known, which lack sequence similarity to ePKs, although some have structural similarity to ePKs [1–3]. ...
متن کاملP20: The Role of Protein Kinases in Memory
When an experience is encrypted into a long-lasting memory, it is believed that specific sets of neurons in the brain of the animal undergo changes including the strengthening of preexisting synapses and the growth and maintenance of new synaptic connections. These activity-dependent synaptic changes appear to require the coordination of a variety of cellular processes in spatially separated ce...
متن کاملCellular SRC kinases and dsRNA dependent protein kinase (PKR) play key role in intracellular viral (CVB3) replication
SRC kinases and PKR are intracellular protein kinases, which play key roles in intracellular viral replication. In this research, the effect of SRC kinase inhibition and PKR activation and inhibition on replication of coxsakievirus (CVB3), an entrovirus of the family picornaviridae – causative agents of fatal myocarditis, was studied. Vero and Hela cells were cultured and infected with CVB3 in ...
